Welcome to the Mystery Jam Monday Part 118 (Happy Hour Edition!) here at Phish.net. Pour yourself a cold beverage, sit back and soak in fifty seconds of Mystery Jammy goodness. As usual we will be playing for an MP3 download, courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. The rules haven't changed: you need to correctly identify the song and the date to win. Post your guess in the comments. One guess per person per day (with the second “day” starting after I post the hint). A hint will be posted on Tuesday (if necessary) and the answer will be posted on Wednesday. Good luck...
Wednesday Answer: Congrats to cerqs for being the first to ID the 11/8/96 "Simple," one of many must-hear versions of "Simple" from Fall '96. The Blog will return on Monday with MJM119.

Run Like an Antelope - 06-16-94
(the day b4 the OJ show!)
I didn't hear the exact passage over the conversation and chatter here (outside the recording), but the tone, attack and key are all consistent with that extraordinary Ghost. Can't wait to read the results.
11/8/1996
Don't think so, or so says my ear...
I think the sharpness of attack and tone say 95 - 97, when u throw in the fishman huge keith moon fills, that's reinforced. But, the closest I've found is the ghost from 9/22/99. That's not it, nor my guess, but oh well
Walter Sobchak: So you have no frame of reference here, Donny. You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know...
I think it isn't '95, as Mike's bass doesn't remind me of his '95 sound. Which starts to move us out of my range of familiarity.
Trey does play almost this exact style a lot in '98, and Mike hasn't yet arrived at that '99 tone. It's interesting, because the first few seconds a much more old school, and the resulting groove is more modern in form. Time to start seeking outside the box?
I agree
Random shot in the dark!
That was my guess. Couldn't find the exact moment though, but the playing is extremely similar.
Regardless, just from the tone, mix, and sound, it screams late Fall Tour '95 to me.
