Excellent review that captures the essence of the film. I watched the film last night with one of my best show buddies, coming off the euphoria of being at Alpine N3 and sharing that experience with my 12 year-old girl as her first show and my brother. Without coincidence, the scenes with the family resonated with me the most emotionally, and I found myself gravitating to see more, to share in the messiness and the common humanity of being a son, brother, father and spouse and the shortcomings we all have in those roles. For me personally, the scenes that show the friendships that underscore the narrative structure between the NYE gag and GOTF were a nice respite from the heaviness I felt of the family narrative. But I still found myself thirsting for more of the family scenes. That was my perspective and reflective, I believe, of where I am right now as a 45 year-old father of 3.

As I left the theater, I felt like I wanted more, just like I always do when the lights come on at a venue, when you're hoping that maybe the last song wasn't the last, that maybe there might be a third set tonight. I just couldn't help wanting more mostly because I found some commonality with a person that I admire so much and who has provided me and my friends with so many wonderful experiences because of the choices in friends he has made and the gift he and they share with all of us.
