Phish.net and The Mockingbird Foundation are delighted to announce the third edition of The Phish Companion: A Guide to the Band & Their Music – available now for purchase.
Like Phish themselves, our intent was to deliver a feast for the senses, and so the new Phish Companion’s 898 full-color, hardbound (!) pages are bursting with exclusive content curated to please every subspecies of fan.
Academics and completists will delight in 1,700 freshly manicured setlists, plus essential song histories, useful charts, band member bios, side-projects, and more.
Prose-heads can dig into nearly 150 sharply observed show reviews, as well as crackling original fan stories that chronicle the evolving Phish experience from Burlington watering holes in the 1980s to soccer stadiums in the present day.
Prefer to eat with your eyes? This book boasts the best printed collection of Phish photography ever compiled. We’re talking 128 pages of full-color memories and olfactory hues here, folks.
And did we mention art? The book’s eight chronological chapters are anchored by stunning original prints from many of the scene’s most accomplished artists – David Welker, AJ Masthay, Justin Helton, and others – each of whom was commissioned to freely interpret a period of Phish.
They crushed it.
If our first and second “reference-style” editions were trusty Subarus that could get you from A to B reliably for a quarter million miles, our third edition is Doc Brown’s DeLorean. It takes you on a guided tour through 33 years of Phish history – and looks sexy as hell doing it.
The story of Phish is one of epic sweep. This book tells that story, from germination to glory, and from ruin to redemption.
But it’s also personal. It’s about you. And in re-discovering the band in these pages, textures, and colors, we hope you will see your own reflection as well.
And now, without any further ado: Ready... Set... Read The Book!

The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Not that it matters. I am going to buy this regardless. I'm just curious.
Already ordered it twice before.
Third times the charm I guess?
PM me if not and I can make sure someone sets it all straight.
B: Not sure! There were a list of questions we anticipated but that was not necessarily one of them. We'll talk internally and get back with you soon. It may be a few days. Hope that is okay.

Now I'll have to find another reason to check the Mockingbird Foundation site every couple days...
Does it cover the 2016 Summer Tour?
How long will the Mann No Man's be?
What will Mike be wearing at The Gorge?
What show will Fluffhead be played at?
When's the album coming out?
I appreciate your prompt reply.
- Twelve
- His heart on his Johnny Varvatos sleeve
- Fluffhead is off the map
- When the cock has crowed three times
As part of the reading material available in the "main" bathroom of our house, TPC1 has received numerous comments from visitors over the years. I'm thinking this one will get even more!
It would great to have a "mobile" copy as well......
: )
not trying to knock the book in anyway. just an observation that i had a question on.
cant wait to check this out!
The short version is, we did not treat this book like an encyclopedia, because everyone can easily get information on the internet. We included what we considered the essential data, and left out a bunch of statistics and minutiae that are better presented on the internet than in a book. We added tons of art, photographs, new reviews, and features.
tl;dr version:
Do we have to wait for Amazon for international shipping or with Mockingbird store start shipping to a wider region?
Our initial push is to sell the book directly to fans. Frankly, we invested a lot in this book, regularly opting for highest quality where other publishers might cut corners. Full color, high quality paper, premium stitching and an amazing cover lead to a book that is not cheap to produce. But by selling it directly to our fans and supporters (and we do think we know where a lot of you hang out...) we look forward to lots of direct sales, each of which earns us some real money that lets us both pay the printers, and fund more amazing grants for the kids.
Very soon Dry Goods will offer the book, and it will be available from us on Amazon.com, with fulfillment done by Amazon. As to how hard we will press to get the book into other shops, that's yet to be seen. But let's start with your record store and see where we can go from there.
