Fyi: 2017 Phish Ticket Code Redemption

Phish changed its ticket code download policy. Codes on tickets are now redeemable for a free stream of the show using the LivePhish mobile app, as well as a discounted MP3 or other format copy of the show (available from the website), whereas previously, the code entitled you to a free MP3 download of the show from LivePhish. (Free MP3 downloads are still available using any pre-2017 ticket codes.)

A portion of LivePhish revenue supports The Mockingbird Foundation, and has since the beginning of LivePhish. Mockingbird volunteers operate and manage this site. Your support of the band and LivePhish therefore indirectly supports Phish.net, and we are very grateful for it.

LivePhish deserves our continued support. Thank you.

GoldenRage What is the discounted cost for MP3 download? Don't see it on LivePhish.com

foolio BOOOOOO!!!!!

Thanks for at least honoring the older ones. Reminds me I got some old Bill Grahams to trade.

User_35532_ In the long run, letting me stream a show over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over is going to ultimately cost LP more than if they just gave us the .MP3s, so you're loss, really, I guess...

So glad $10 of my ticket price now goes toward access to the show on the worst streaming service/app imaginable. You shouldn't be guilting us into supporting LP because they support MB, you should be directing disgruntled people to donating to MBF directly as opposed decrying loosing your kick-back from LP.

The streaming/app sucks, the Live Stream prices are getting outrageous, and now they pull this seedy backroom ticket code nonsense. LivePhish does not deserve our continued support, there are plenty of other ways to support MBF without them.

david_bowie I did not complain (much) about an extra $10 added to the ticket price when I knew I could download the show and listen again and again offline. So, I am not too pleased that the price is still factored in without the download. Remove $10 from the ticket price and let the market separately decide the worth of the various download options. Why are we artificially propping them up?

Allow me a brief rant on ticket prices in general...

The average price of a "bakers' dozen" ticket, not including fees, is $72 or $80. I spent almost $2,000 to get a pair of tickets to this MSG run - cue the giant cartoon lollipop labeled "SUCKER." In 2010, before the TABification of our favorite rock band (see Petrichor, et. al.), the average price of a phish ticket was $50. Those of us who are neither drug dealers nor trust funders are feeling the squeeze.

More concerning is that ticket prices seem not only seem to be increasing rapidly, but also inversely proportional to the quality of the band's performance. Save for Hartford and a handful of shows out West, last summer's tour was pretty sad. I still have high hopes for NYC, but if the boys cannot deliver the goods I might just have to wait a few more years when they are relegated to smaller venues.

experiencechuck WOW... So much entitlement in these comments.

Also Petrichor = the "TABification" of Phish?! I don't even know where to start with that one..

Sorry, I guess I could have picked a lamer Big Boat song like Breath and Burning, but you get my drift. I'm just saying the trend line is worrisome. But If you wanna squeeze into MSG for $100 to see Trey do his favorite ballads, don't let me bring you down. I just don't see it as sustainable. I'd love to be wrong, but it sure feels like the end is near.

What other band have you seen lately that even gives you this option? We should be thankful that they have allowed download codes for this long, and that you can still get the show via the app, and that they even offer an app.

I don't know which app you've been using but it's been pretty reasonable for me in the past. Not to mention you must be from a different era, more traffic on any site / streaming service brings in more revenue than a one time download. Maybe you should support Dead & Company or something that just hoses you even more on ticket prices and fails to even give you a one time listen on an app, or an official download.

Side note: There are plenty of FREE audience recordings if you're interested. Ever hear of Phish OD, bt.etree.org, or the rest of the internet?

Question: How's your entitlement status today? (Seems pretty high) Personally I consider myself lucky to be able to see a band I love in some of the best venues around, even if that means paying a little $$ and not getting something that we've been gifted in the past. It seems like if it were up to the band they'd do it all for much less, but you know, those people who take care of all the spun out Wooks probably deserve some pay, not to mention all the other people who contribute to the production. I find it funny that most of us won't bat an eye at paying $4+ for a coffee but complain about stuff like this.

Don't be mad at the band, take it out on the industry. 10$ of your ticket price goes to people in offices that you've never even heard of, and another $10 goes to their bosses, oh yeah, and another $10 goes to some asshole's big bonus for having a prestigious title. Don't be mad at Phish for still giving you a service that most bands don't even offer.

Enjoy everything while it lasts and stop complaining!

Seems like maybe the end is near for you then? Might not be your thing anymore but there are plenty of people who are still into it... Just saying

piper24 I guess when you only play like 10 shows a year you gotta make up for it somehow. Thank god for the tapers!!
, comment by Hockeyplayr7
Hockeyplayr7 This is my first post on PN and I am about to go to my first live shows in 19 years and I couldn't be happier. So take this in the vein that i am of contemporary age of the band and I stopped seeing them because of the crowds (not just the sheer numbers but the attitude (too much like late GD, too many frat boys and to many people there just to get fucked up)) The price for a Phish ticket is still way, way below any of the other big acts going around the country.
As far as the TABifucatuon of the band goes, is it not acceptable for the musicians to grow (age) as time goes by and for their writings and compositions to change as well? We all get older every day and our outlook on life changes with each day. I look in the changes of Phish from when I first saw them in '91 and became an instant fan (they hooked me the first time I heard Reba from Lawn Boy in '90) and have loved seeing them grow and change over the years. I like to think of their career as a long continuing improvisation, not only if their songs but of their attitude. There have been bumpy parts and break ups but what is great is that they have survives and prospered. It is in this train of thought that I don't have any problem with TABifacation (horrible term). It shows a growth and highlights the individual abilities of this great band that will continue to write and produce the music as they see fit to entertain us all. Looking forward to being back in the crowd for 3 of the Bakers Dozen shows!!

malachai Relax, the streams will spin beside themselves and suck you in... I love the new changes to LivePhish.

I get that it's not cool if you don't have an unlimited data plan or a good wifi setup, but I listen to almost everything streaming so I've never had any use for codes and stopped collecting shows when people staring using CD's instead of Maxell tapes and checking Andy Gadiel's website for setlists was a thing.

Between LivePhish and PhishOD there's no need for me personally to "own" any shows offline. Except for when I go out of the country or times where I'm off the grid in the corn fields or hunting adults with Issac.

The more active users the LivePhish app accrues the more it will be invested in and better it will become over time. And all the soundboards that exist will be there someday so might as well surrender to the flow fam.

Remember, your offline Phish show collection has always been up to you to forage autonomously.
, comment by phishyeducator
phishyeducator I'm definitely bummed about losing the mp3 DL. I have a dinosaur phone that can only support the old livephish app, and while I can still access my stash on it, my data plan is a shared one and not conducive to much streaming. I'm grateful for the years we had the free DL however, and will still end up with the SBD of the shows I go to. I'm just eternally grateful that Phish is still out there blowing our minds, because it wasn't too long ago that Coventry was the most recent show and they weren't even together, let alone touring.
, comment by JustinC
JustinC Doesn't affect me because I purchase the full tour on LivePhish, have for years. Yep I might have saved a little by not purchasing the shows I was going to and just using the free code but it's a negligible amount.
, comment by tweezerbella
tweezerbella so can you keep the show in your stash and watch as many times as you want forever , or is it a 24 hour thing? because if I can watch it as many times as I want than I can kinda sorta deal with not getting my mp3 downloads... maybe

dongusbologna Can the word "entitled" be banned from this site?

Being pissed that you've paid for something for years and then it's just taken away from you, while you're still being charged the same amount (and actually more) does not make you entitled. It makes you a reasonable person who expects to not be taken advantage of.

I've seen new tolls be added to highways to pay for 1 specific project, and then when that project was complete, the tolls remained. So the very reason for the tolls' existence was fulfilled, yet everyone still has to pay a toll there every time they drive through. Does being pissed about that make you entitled? Should drivers just be happy that in 2017, they're still able to drive on a road at all?

Phish aren't your friends. They're a business. If they're taking away downloads, ticket prices should go down. This sucks, and you're not "entitled" or "whiny" if you think that.

Well put. So many people here blindly praise everything and anything that Phish does now, even though their move to Red Light Management has increased the policies/actions/etc. that are clearly financially motivated., rather than by the uncompromising and unique artistic integrity of the 90s. I actually receive emails now from Dry Goods alerting me to sales on Phish beach towels; I'm pretty sure that were the band, circa '97, aware of things like that, they'd shit themselves with shame. But don't bother criticizing Phish or their business decisions even in the slightest way now; some 3.0 wonk will surely get on your case about being whiny and entitled blah blah. Apparently being a conscientious consumer is offensive to some (likely the less thoughtful among us).
, comment by chipre
chipre I still enjoy their music quite a bit. There are hits and misses, whether it's 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 47.0, it doesn't really matter. The beauty of Phish is that there are so many songs (and versions of songs) that you don't have to feel obliged to love every one.

Personally I love a 90's Reba or '03/04 Jibboo, but if you got on board later and dig Joy and Big Boat (like my wife), you are a phan as well.

As for criticism, that's what these forums are for. We can disagree with each other while respecting different opinions, or even worldviews.

Looking forward to Friday's show in Chi-town...

I don't totally disagree with you, but there's just so much hate and judgement and, yes, entitlement in Phish online communities, PhantasyTour in particular, but Phish.net as well. Criticism of the band is fair game, but it seems like it becomes a way of life for some folks, and so what you see in response at times is a hyperbolic defense of the band that can gloss over things that may truly be problematic. For further evidence, just look at the top rated comment on this thread: a giant FUCK YOU to.. the band? To LivePhish? To a defense of the spirit of giving shown by LivePhish toward the Mockingbird Foundation and to Phish.net? I mean, WTF?!

The band still gives its fans a level of access to their music that few, if any, other artists can touch. I don't recall prices for tickets ever specifically being increased to cover the cost of these downloads, if I'm wrong, let me know, but I expect the same download links of all of these shows will still make the rounds within minutes of the shows ending, same as it ever was. If a downloadable MP3 of a soundboard recording (which you can easily find as a free AUD in lossless or MP3 at any time) is what breaks your image of this band's artistic integrity and spirit then it must not have been very strong in the first place.
