The Jim loud and a good insight into the transition they made from loud arena rock jam band in 95 to 96 where , either because if better equipment or a sense of purpose or the recordings get better in 96 , they where i tight , bigger, bulbous, flying balloon sound at , their flying best. For me Clifford Ball is the culmination of this period. The Cavern is taken over by the crowd in a good way. even a sbd recording displays how into the show the crowd is.
REBA!! f they go into a solid Reba. the orchestrted part is perfect. the jam is pondering thus you gotta stick with them till the 9 min mark for the payoff ;-0 its worth it!
I didn't know is great! Fish "Her Royal Highness" does a spectacular vaccuum solo. for reals lol
Sparkle is my fav short diddy phish plays
Stash. the first time for them to work a minor-key , tension-release
song where trey just loves to bug out ! My favorite phis jams. the get atonal and sound like a computer run amok with rhthm going 90 mph. this is perfect example of that. Feeding off the crowd they bring this to an atonal climax at the 8 min mark and then its Mike who takes over and the boys follow. Runaway-latin-metal-train-rock is what follows. if you go by trey's guitar he's loving it!! whne he decides to get on top of all the madness, its with adept confidence and melody. Page lays down a nice blanket for everyone to lay on the whole jam. A Must hear STASH!
PAge shows us whats what in Scent of A Mule
Hood second set opener is solid. Again you must wit till the 8 or 9 min mark for lift off lol I think it's worth it.
Funky 2001. another hint of Phish incarnations to come.
Maze is fantastic. Fish and trey are locked while page is jamming and mike is just really bugging out. Mike shines on the whole song reall cuz as soon as trey starts you hear how heavy Mike is grooving.
But after about the first two minutes of trey's solo its all trey. He is roc star personified. He jedi's this one.
YEM .
Solid show
