The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.

In '93 I was a student at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. There I was turned on to Phish by fellow classmates from Albany, NY, close to my home in the Berkshires of western MA.
Well they got me a ticket to what would have been my 1st show. And not just any ticket, this ticket was orchestra center row BBB, that's 2nd row!
So on fri. morning of show I hop on a bus from campus that will take me to Providence bus terminal and from there another bus to Albany. Well we're going along no problems and then...the bus comes to a stand still in traffic. And we wait..and wait. Finally get to bus station, go to counter only to find that I missed the bus to Albany by 7 minutes. And the next bus didn't leave until after show time and we're talking 3 hr trip. Crushed.
Made my back to campus and went to this girls room that I was friendly with, knowing her roommate had a car. Proceeded to ultimately resort to begging her for use of her car or for a ride, subsequently I was rebuked.
Alas, the day ended with a small gathering and a keg of swill. My unused Phish ticket and sad tale earned me a free keg cup.
So there's my silver lining.
Many years later upon reading the set list, with many Phish shows under my belt, it only pained my heart further to see what I had missed. From the signals to the big jams with crazy teases. A Fishman song and a Sweet Adeline sans mics. And a Big Ball Jam..how cool would it have to been a part of that.
And the icing on the cake is the guest appearance by Dick Solberg, The Sun Mt. Fiddler. I wouldn't have known of him then but in subsequent years I saw him many times at the Lions Den in Stockbridge, MA and Halpins in Lenox, MA. Always a good time, what a great guy and super musician.
Upon listening, Trey mentions they met Dick while hanging in the Virgin Islands. When I met Dick years later he told me he winters in the islands and summers in upstate NY. Oh if ever a time machine comes my way, right after I get back from Egypt '78 I'm going to the islands to hang with Phish and The Sun Mt. Fiddler!
In conclusion, if you're looking for a review...I wasn't at the show. But now with the miracle of the Intranet and the generosity of Phish I can listen to the show. And it sounds incredible. I highly suggest listening to this show, and the entire winter/spring '93 tour for that matter, as it is a great snapshot of an adolescent band poised to pounce on an unsuspecting world.
