Review by phun_key

phun_key I only rate this show a 5 because it was my first Phish show....though I never intended it to be. I was stationed in the U.K. in the Air Force and went to London with a buddy to see the Violent Femmes. Oddly, a band with an even sillier name opened for them. Pretty quickly I was struck by the bombastic style - pretty brave of the stripped-down Femmes to let this kind of band open for them. I honestly don't remember any specific song from this set, EXCEPT Chalk Dust Torture. I never heard again about them until they decided to play the Aladdin Theater in Las Vegas (where I was, and am still, living) on 12/6/96 - a show that is now a part of Phish lore. After being in the front row of the balcony for this mindfuck of a show, I quickly began gobbling up anything I could find from this band. One of the first things I picked up was A Live One, of course. As soon as I heard Chalk Dust Torture, I clearly remembered it from that show in London 4 1/2 years earlier. Wish there was a tape of this set - very concise and solid list.
