This was also my first Phish show. I was a Junior attending Madison. We had a high school buddy who was attending Brown University on the East coast, who over the previous year had sent us some recordings of Phish from shows he was seeing out there. We were immediately intrigued. He also had just sent us Trey's thesis of "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday". We spun it often.

My buddies, and some friends we had met from the east coast, all went down to the Rathskeller that night. There wasn't a whole lot of people there, so of course we got right up front. Oh. My. F'n God! They absolutely blew us away! I don't recall any specific songs (We hardly knew the names of their songs yet). As the previous review states, I'm certain they were the "standard fare" for that time of Phish.

The memory that is burned into my brain was that Trey (whom I was right in front of...the stage is only like 9 inches tall) seemed like he was flying...literally. He and Mike had fans blowing on them, and Trey's hair was blowing back the whole performance. As we walked out, thoroughly in awe, I turned to my friends and said "These guys are going to be huge!". One of the friends from the east coast ended up bringing Phish back as the promoter for the next shows at Madison...from The Great Hall, and all the Barrymore's. He still works for the band to this day! Great times!
