Well this was my good buddies college dorm show basically. The next night we went to Huden dinning hall in the cafateria for Adams hall and a few other dorms at castleton. My friend Grady and I along with some random folks in the dorm and my brother who was at Johnson State were all partying before hand and then went downstairs to check out the venue. Who did we see but Fishman lugging his drums and trey grabbing a few amps and stufff...so we gave them a hand and chatted them up about how tight the band was...we loved helping out and made 3 trips back to their truck to grab stuff. It was fun. The place had a black and white checkered hallway and like real nice valour furniture of reds and dark greens and the place was sort of like a medievil looking dungeon...or so at the time it seemed like it. There was no stage they were floor level. I recall fire being really crazy at the end of the show. The next night was at my school in castleton...fun time!

I only got to listen to a little more than half of this show, but I wasn’t too impressed with what I heard overall.

The recording I heard comes in at My Sweet One, which was ok, just not totally tight yet. Same thing for Gin and Antelope, its not that they didn’t rock, it’s just not the tightest playing I’ve ever heard from these guys.

Hood was ok, and I still feel like they aren’t locking in all the way with each other. Tela is still getting its final arrangement so there are mistakes and rough parts in this one. Timber sounds very rusty, like they haven’t played it in a while and so did Slave for that matter. IDK was fine with the usual Fishman antics included. YEM had some rough parts as Fishman fell off at one point making the climax a little lame tonight, plus parts of the recording are cut so there is no tramps section and Page’s solo pretty much gets cut and it picks up at Trey’s part, which is a nice jam. Mike’s part was short and I found it interesting on this one that Fishman keeps drumming through most of the vocal jam at the end, which was then also cut on the recording and then faded out. Possum rocked, but had a rough beginning. Not the greatest playing in this rough second set.

The new Lawn Boy gets the first encore spot tonight and was pretty well done and then a rocking, but sloppy Fire finishes up the night.

Not nearly as good as last night’s Baltimore show, but maybe I missed some gems in the first set?

This is a solid show, no doubt about it. No crazy, signature jams, but good versions of Melt, Ya Mar, AC/DC Bag, Hood and Slave. Good sound, too! The sum of its parts was almost enough, IMO, to put this into 4 star territory, but not quite. So I'll go with three, but its a high three.

It was really cold with light snow that night. I had been to Poultney but drove past it on 22A lots of times. I remember the room was quite ornate and people were super psyched to see Phish in VT, they were on tour out of state. This show was very enjoyable to attend. There was plenty of room to dance and the sound was great, the recording doesn't reflect it accurately. I am into the whirling organ sound and Page had it going that night. Too bad I lost the clean recording of I used have, but it was a cassette and we all know what happens to them. Timber was memorable as well as a super Lawn Boy.

The recording of this show is pretty poor to start. It sounds like a possible audience recording with multiple cassette generations up until MSO. From MSO through the end of the show it switches over to a pretty clean SBD recording! Although, the pitch sounds a hair slow.

Nice Split Open to start things out. Killer Reba jam. Incredible Bag tonight.! Another smokin’ Antelope to close out the first half.

2nd set kicks off with a solid Hood. Thanks to the guy that requested Tela! They’re still tinkering with the ending at this point. Timber was up next. Decent version. Always a welcome treat but seldom played at this point. Unfortunately the end is cut. Possible tape flip? This is followed up by a nice version of Slave. I Didn’t Know features Moses Brown, Moses Heaps, Moses DeWitt, Marco Esquandolis, J. Edgar Hoover and JP Finney on vacuum. Pages solo is cut out of YEM. Enjoyable version of YEM with a cool psychedelic vocal jam that segues nicely into Possum. Solid Possum to close things out. Lawn Boy and a high energy Fire wrap things up. Damn fine show.
